Together Spring

Belly orange

and already (how?) so fluffy

robin

First of spring

invites me to take out

the headphones

and say hello to

the so many cousin chirps of

We are here

Here

again singing

even though

the brown is most

and still bare branches all.

Listen darling to the future warm.

Look now at your feet

the greening path begun.

Come be in all your texture and colors

and trust we Together

will sing this Now Then

home.

Reflection Invitations

(or stop at the poem’s end. It is often more than enough to just feel.)

  • Play a game of hot and cold as you go through your day: Who feels warm to your end-of-winter body? Are there common characteristics, circumstances, care-abilities of these humans?

  • In what ways you can join Together with these humans to sing the green and color here again, or (as important) honor and hold tenderly what winter has given too?
E.g. ask them to coffee, body double to get stuff done, collaborate on making change at your kiddo’s school, put a monthly community meal on the calendar. If they are online pals: zoom connect, share their stuff, explore if what they are broadcasting wants to grow in your life too. If your warm humans are your kids, give yourself permission (a mandate?) to enjoy them, trust their want and flow, to learn again how a human blooms.

  • Explore ways your particular body joins Spring (growth invitations and promises, new and again)
E.g. Walk next to trees. Look down and notice what is unfurling around your feet (consider also who names a weed a weed and if you agree.) Sit longer in the morning before you “produce” while feeling what portion feels like a green-ing invitation in the myriad of where your attention goes when it has some space.
Gaze at a half-grown thing and notice what your body does with that in-between. Let your body protest injustice (here and there), spill its poetry into a text to your friend, notice want without judgment, allow (rest in) not yet. Practice repair with your kids. Remember what you loved when you were tiny and fresh.

In all of this, tune in to your body sensations. Let yourself know what you know.

If you would like support around tuning in to your particular Green(ing) and Together,

I’d love to journey with you in a 1:1 somatic coaching + thought partnering session.
